Fires an ocpp_authorization event (charge_point_id, id_tag, authorization_status) for every tag decision, so automations can react to presented and rejected tags. It is raised in get_authorization_status rather than on_authorize because tags the charger accepts locally only arrive with StartTransaction.

Closes #2086.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Authorization decisions now generate an event with the charge point, connector, ID tag, and authorization status. Automations can respond to decisions based on configured tags, the default status, or the remote-start tag.
    • OCPP 2.0.1 authorization requests using other token types report an Unknown status through the event.
  • Documentation
    • Added guidance and an automation example for using authorization events.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The charge point now emits ocpp_authorization events with the charge point ID, connector ID, ID tag, and authorization status. OCPP 1.6 and OCPP 2.0.1 authorization paths have corresponding test coverage. The user guide documents the event and an automation example.

Adds EVENT_AUTHORIZATION. Authorization lookup accepts an optional connector ID and publishes the charge point ID, connector ID, ID tag, and resolved status. Tests check emitted event data for authorization lookups, including a connector-specific lookup.

OCPP 1.6 passes the connector ID to authorization lookup. OCPP 2.0.1 emits an event for token types outside ISO 14443, ISO 15693, and central; the test checks an EMAID token with status unknown. The user guide describes event fields and includes an automation example.

ocpp Python library 2.1.0 routing on decorator handler registration server ChargePoint documentation

💡 Result:

In **`ocpp` Python package 2.1.0**, `@on(...)` marks a method as the handler for an OCPP action. When a `ChargePoint` instance is created, it builds a route map from decorated methods; as messages arrive, it uses the action to find and invoke the matching handler. ([raw.githubusercontent.com](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mobilityhouse/ocpp/2.1.0/ocpp/routing.py))

For a server, subclass the appropriate `ChargePoint`, decorate handler methods, then create an instance for each WebSocket connection and `await charge_point.start()`. The server-side documentation demonstrates this with `ocpp.v16.ChargePoint` and `@on(Action.boot_notification)`. ([ocpp.readthedocs.io](https://ocpp.readthedocs.io/en/stable/usage/server_side.html))

**Version distinction:** `2.1.0` here is the Python library’s version, not evidence of OCPP protocol 2.1 support. The documentation example is OCPP 1.6; the project README lists support for OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1. ([github.com](https://github.com/mobilityhouse/ocpp/releases?utm_source=openai))

Emit an event for the Unknown authorization result.

When a charger sends an OCPP 2.0.1 Authorize request with a valid token type outside ISO14443, ISO15693, and Central, on_authorize returns Unknown without calling get_authorization_status. That result bypasses the event, despite the test’s stated “Every decision” expectation. Emit the existing status through the shared event path without looking up or changing authorization.

@drc38 Yes. A connector_id would help automations target the correct connector on a multi-connector charger.

However, an Authorize request does not include a connector ID. I would make the event field nullable:

  • For OCPP 1.6 StartTransaction, pass the supplied connector_id.
  • For Authorize, emit "connector_id": null. Do not infer the connector or default to 1.
  • For OCPP 2.0.1 transaction events, include evse_id as well when available. The connector ID is scoped to the EVSE.

The shared event emitter can accept this optional context. The Unknown authorization result should still emit an event, even when no connector is known.

Added connector_id. StartTransaction sets it, Authorize carries no connector in either protocol, so it is null there.

Emit the authorization event for OCPP 2.0.1 transaction tokens.

If a charger accepts a token locally and sends it only in TransactionEvent, on_authorize never runs. This handler answers Accepted for the token but emits no ocpp_authorization event. Publish that decision with the resolved connector ID. Also handle the immediate Accepted response in the inventory-buffered path, and avoid publishing the same decision again during replay or later updates. This is a distinct path from the previously reviewed Unknown result in on_authorize.
