PicoRV32 Toolchain Build Environment
This repository provides a Docker-based environment to build the RISC-V toolchain for the PicoRV32 CPU.
- Docker and Docker Compose installed on your host machine.
The easiest way to build the toolchain and export binaries to your host is using Docker Compose. This automatically handles the image build, bind mounts, and the compilation sequence.
# This will build the environment and run the compilation process
docker compose up --buildThe binaries will be installed into the toolchains/ directory on your host machine (e.g., toolchains/riscv32i/bin/...).
The build process captures all output to dated log files in the toolchains/ directory (e.g., toolchain_build_log_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.log) to prevent TTY bottlenecks and preserve build history.
If you prefer to run the build steps manually:
-
Build the image:
docker build -t picorv32-env . -
Run the container with the output mount:
mkdir -p toolchains docker run -it --rm -v $(pwd)/toolchains:/opt picorv32-env -
Execute build commands inside the container:
make download-tools printf 'YES\n' | make -j$(nproc) build-tools
Pre-compiled toolchain binaries are automatically published as GitHub Releases on every push to main. You can download the picorv32-toolchain.tar.gz package from the Releases page and extract it in your environment into /opt or your preferred directory.
