D-Bus Remote Control back to iOS

Hi, I've been trying to experiment with Remote control D-Bus commands, - Pause and Play. My expectation is these commands can pause and continue playback remotely to a media player over Airplay. I use iOS for testing, and expect it should work natively for Airplay v2.

Unfortunately, nothing happens when I invoke the Play/Pause D-Bus commands. The shairport-sync-dbus-test-client do not react anyhow on remote commands as well. So I believe my expectations are wrong. Could you please help me with a proper guidance?

Perhaps this answer is partially answering my question and we don't know how to send control commands back to iOS?

The D-Bus Play command from documents/sample dbus commands:

dbus-send --system --print-reply --type=method_call --dest=org.gnome.ShairportSync '/org/gnome/ShairportSync' org.gnome.ShairportSync.RemoteControl.Play

Unfortunately this is a problem we don’t know how to solve. Recent versions of AirPlay do not respond to the remote control commands used in the past. See here for a related discussion.

Thank you for the answer. What is the todays purpose of remote control commands?

Apologies for being not specific. For me as a user it is not clear how else we could use remote control commands for interaction, provided that requests are not sent back to iOS.

Thanks. You’re correct that there is no point sending remote control requests to Shairport Sync if they are not sent to the AirPlay source, but unfortunately we don’t know how to resolve the problem. However, the commands apparently still work — and are still sent — to older versions of iOS.
