Hi, I'm Renee 👋

Some of you also know me as 慧欣 ⋆ ⊹ ࣪ ˖. ݁˖⋆˙

I'm a biomedical data scientist and solutions engineer working at the intersection of biology, software, and AI.
More recently, I've been building AI-enabled workflows for biotech—from target discovery to clinical-trial design and scientific data engineering.

🧠 My PhD research combined computational techniques and domain knowledge in clinical neuroscience and psychology to understand factors that contribute to brain aging in bipolar disorder.
💻 I have work experience in product management, UX research, and business development in health tech startups in 🇲🇾🇵🇭 taking an amorphous idea from 0 to 1 is an intrinsically rewarding process to me.
🌐 I love building community; building out Nucleate’s Global Life Sciences program to faciliate connections between Nucleate chapters across the world and co-founding TechBio Transformers reinforced my belief that accelerating innovation means empowering the people behind it.
📚 I received my PhD from the Cognitive Science department of the University of California San Diego in 2025.

🔬 What I work on

  • 🧬 Computational biology & biomedical data science
  • 🤖 Applied AI and agentic scientific workflows
  • 📊 Reproducible research practices
  • 🛠️ Rapid prototyping of research software

🧰 Tools

Data Engineering: Python · SQL · AWS · ETL/Pipelines · Docker
Software Engineering: Git · GitHub Actions · CI/CD · Linux · REST APIs · Testing
Neuroimaging: FSL · FreeSurfer · SPM · ANTsPy · MONAI
Bioinformatics: DESeq2, Seurat, Nextflow
Data Science: Python · R · pandas · NumPy · scikit-learn · Statistical Modeling

🌱 Open source

Some of my efforts include:

  • contributing to the The Turing Way
  • creating mini resources for reproducible computational science for psyschology researchers
  • teaching coding and reproducible software best practices via the Carpentries at academic (Howard U, UCSD, Stanford), government (CDC) and industry settings (Genentech)

💬 Let's connect

I value community, mentorship, curiosity, and purpose-aligned leadership over linear career paths or titles. I am excited by who I get to learn from and build with. Please reach out if you work at the intersection of biology, software, and AI.
