An AI Engineering Manager loop is a normal EM loop with two or three rounds swapped out. What changes is a system design round that now involves retrieval and evaluation, a strategy round that asks whether you would build or buy, and a technical depth round that checks whether you can hold a conversation about models without either bluffing or freezing. Most candidates fail this loop by preparing as if it were an IC AI interview, drilling transformer internals nobody will ask about while neglecting the story about the time a model regressed in production. Budget about 6 hours to read the module end to end, and 4 weeks to prepare properly.
The two things candidates skip are the stories and the mocks, and they are the two that decide loops. Everyone reads the question bank because reading is comfortable and feels like progress; almost nobody records themselves answering, which is uncomfortable and is the only thing that actually changes your performance. Reading the answers is not preparing. Saying them out loud, to a person or a recorder, until the shape of the answer is yours rather than the page's, is preparing. Treat the company guides as commonly reported themes rather than insider knowledge, and check the employer's own careers pages before your loop, because processes change.
