Modbus.Net is a communication framework based on the OSI 7-layer model. There is a high degree of similarity between the framework and OSI architecture.

The Physical and Data Link layers represent electrical signal definitions and wiring respectively — these are hardware-level concerns not modeled in Modbus.Net.

Data Link Transmission Control Layer — Controller
Network Transmission Link Layer — Connector
Transport Concrete Protocol Layer — ProtocolLinker
Session Abstract Protocol Layer — Protocol
Presentation Protocol Presentation Layer — Utility
