Verbalis is source-available, not OSI-approved "open source". The source code is public and free to read, learn from, and use under the terms below, but commercial use by organizations requires a separate agreement.
- "The Software" — Verbalis, including its source code, brand assets, and documentation in this repository.
- "The Author" — Pedro Brito, the original creator and copyright holder.
- "Individual" — a single natural person using the Software for their own work, whether personal or professional (including a sole freelance translator with no employees).
- "Organization" — any entity larger than one person: companies, partnerships, agencies, non-profits, government bodies, teams, or groups of two or more people using the Software in a shared or commercial capacity.
The Author grants every Individual a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use, copy, modify, and self-host the Software for their own work, free of charge, subject to one condition:
Attribution. You must give clear, visible credit to the Author. Keep the existing "Created by Pedro Brito" credit and the link to https://github.com/pedrobritx/verbalis intact in the application's About/credits screen, and — where you publish work, a fork, or a derivative built on the Software — state that it is "powered by Verbalis, created by Pedro Brito" with a link back to this repository.
That attribution is the only thing asked of Individuals.
Use of the Software by an Organization — including internal business use, deployment for or by a team, bundling into a product or service, or any use that is part of a commercial operation — requires a separate commercial licence from the Author.
If you are an Organization (any entity larger than one person), please contact the Author to arrange terms. Pricing is set individually and scaled to the size and nature of your use:

Until such an agreement is in place, an Organization has no licence to use the Software beyond evaluation.
Contributions submitted to this repository are licensed to the Author under these same terms and may be included in the Software and in commercial licences. You retain copyright in your contributions.
This licence does not grant rights to use the "Verbalis" name or brand marks except as required to provide the attribution described in Section 2.
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHOR BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
