I have a new build of pplacer that unpins GSL live on bioconda

Next CI run should pick it up!

An old version of libdeflate blockes samtools and fastp, so... could we just bump the pinned versions?

Updating these pins helps the env resolve: samtools=1.22.1 → 1.24 and fastp=1.0.1 → 1.3.5 in 2026.10/qiime2/{passed,staged}/seed-environment-conda-osx.yml

Step Versions that can Resolve Result
samtools samtools 1.24, htslib 1.24, libdeflate 1.25, r-base 4.5.2; arm64 binaries pytest --pyargs q2_quality_control: 119 passed, 0 failed
fastp (same env) fastp 1.3.5, multiqc 1.35, isa-l 2.31.1; samtools and libdeflate unchanged pytest --pyargs q2_fastp -n 4: 11 passed

The fastp=1.0.1 pin is set inside those that seed file, not in q2-fastp's recipe. This should be safe to bump right now!

Samtools probably needs a little more testing. It's pinned to this old version in two places:

The 1.22.1.* pins in q2-quality-control and q2-mag come from the {{ samtools }} variable in their recipes. That variable takes the samtools=1.22.1 line in each distro's seed files:
2026.10/qiime2/*/seed-environment-conda-{linux,osx}.yml for q2-quality-control, and
2026.10/moshpit/*/seed-environment-conda-linux.yml for q2-mag.

q2-types and q2-assembly use samtools unpinned
