any chance it could work without a package.json lookup? my global node_modules is huge, lodash, async, request, minimatch, glob, rimraf, esprima, inherits...

so it also skips deduping and 0.x.y files. if you have an API suggestion for deduping those, let me know

maybe accept a second argument and check if it's a directory, if so walk, it, taking note of the folder name, then creating the root tree out of it (like a virtual package.json, taking the versions from each package.json inside each folder)
