LinkLift Future Feature Roadmap

This document outlines the strategic vision for LinkLift, evolving it from a link manager into a powerful knowledge discovery and content organization tool. The goal is to facilitate not just the storage of links, but the exploration of connections between them and the discovery of new, relevant content.

Vision

LinkLift will become an intelligent platform for personal knowledge management that helps users:

  1. Organize visited links and saved content effortlessly.
  2. Discover implicit relationships and connections within their saved content.
  3. Explore new, related content through intelligent crawling and suggestions.
  4. Navigate a personal knowledge graph built from their digital footprint.

Roadmap Themes

The future development will be organized around these core themes:

  1. Core Experience & Organization
  2. Content Intelligence & Discovery
  3. Knowledge Graph & Navigation
  4. Integrations & Extensibility
  5. Architectural Evolution

1. Core Experience & Organization

Enhance the fundamental tools for managing links and content.

  • Advanced Tagging System:
    • Implement hierarchical (nested) tags.
    • Suggest tags automatically based on content analysis.
    • Allow tagging of specific highlights within content.
  • Full-Text Search:
    • Implement a powerful search engine (e.g., using Elasticsearch or native ArcadeDB full-text indexing) to search through the content of all saved articles, not just metadata.
  • Smart Collections:
    • Create dynamic collections based on saved search queries, tags, domains, or content similarity.
  • Annotations & Highlighting:
    • Allow users to select and highlight text within the ContentViewer.
    • Attach notes and comments to highlights.
    • List all highlights from an article in a summary view.

2. Content Intelligence & Discovery

Build features that automatically analyze content and suggest new information.

  • Enhanced Content Scraper:
    • Improve the existing DownloadContentService to automatically fetch a clean, readable version of every link added.
    • Store a permanent, offline-first copy of the content.
  • Content Crawler (Link-Following):
    • Implement a service that recursively follows links within a saved article to a configurable depth.
    • Automatically discover and suggest new, related articles to add to the user's collection.
  • Related Content Engine:
    • Use Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques (e.g., embeddings, TF-IDF) to analyze saved content.
    • Suggest related articles from within the user's existing collection.
    • Suggest new, relevant articles from the web.
  • Automatic Entity Extraction:
    • Identify and automatically tag key entities (people, organizations, topics, technologies) mentioned in articles.
    • Link these entities to build a richer knowledge graph.

3. Knowledge Graph & Navigation

Leverage the graph capabilities of ArcadeDB to visualize and explore connections.

  • Interactive Graph Visualization:
    • Create a new UI component to render the user's collection as a network graph.
    • Nodes will represent links, collections, and entities.
    • Edges will represent relationships (e.g., "cites", "is referenced by", "is similar to").
  • Graph-Based Navigation:
    • Allow users to click on nodes and edges to navigate their collection in a non-linear fashion.
    • Explore how different pieces of content are interconnected.
  • Defined Relationship Types:
    • Go beyond simple links and define explicit relationship types. The backend graph model will be updated to support this.

4. Integrations & Extensibility

Connect LinkLift to the broader ecosystem of tools and workflows.

  • Browser Extensions:
    • Develop extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari to add links to LinkLift with one click.
  • Public API:
    • Expose a secure, documented public API to allow third-party integrations (e.g., with tools like Obsidian, Logseq, Roam Research).
  • Import/Export Functionality:
    • Implement importers for services like Pocket, Instapaper, and browser bookmarks.
    • Allow users to export their data in standard formats (JSON, CSV, Markdown).

5. Architectural Evolution

Underpinning technical enhancements required to support these features. This extends the long-term vision from the initial roadmap.

  • Asynchronous Job Queue:
    • Integrate a message queue (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka) to handle long-running background tasks like content scraping, crawling, and NLP analysis.
  • Dedicated NLP/ML Service:
    • Create a separate microservice for handling computationally intensive NLP tasks (entity extraction, similarity analysis) to keep the core API responsive.
  • CQRS & Event Sourcing:
    • Continue the planned move towards CQRS to separate read/write models, which is crucial for complex queries (e.g., graph traversal, full-text search).
    • Use Event Sourcing to create a complete audit log and enable more complex state reconstructions.
  • Advanced Caching Layer:
    • Integrate a caching solution like Redis to store results from NLP tasks, frequently accessed content, and graph queries.
  • Real-time Updates:
    • Implement WebSockets or Server-Sent Events (SSE) to push updates to the frontend in real-time (e.g., when a background job completes).
