"cons": "I don't consider this a con for me personally, however I know those who aren't used to change will - Change is an absolute constant. There would be changes day to day and some of them will feel ridiculous and make you feel that the customer or support was never in mind when decisions are made. You may feel that fixes for IT issues or bugs do not happen quickly as a result as well.\n\nThere were several roles that were eliminated as a result of lay offs. The company is moving in a different direction and saving money is the name of the game. However, this leaves so many opportunities for things to fall through the cracks. There are no longer enough qualified people that help make necessary changes for timely updates to technical issues.",

"pros": "Working at eBay was a dream. I started on the phones and thanks to competent management and development opportunities, I was able to move up and into several different roles throughout my tenure (more than 10 years). \n\nThere was a lot of support and I never felt that my questions and concerns were left to the wayside. I had constanct development. \n\nI truly enjoyed my coworkers. I always felt at home and always knew I could expect to receive quality feedback and always felt comfortable giving feedback to peers and upper management.\n\nThe opportunities for growth are great, but they are what you make of it. \n\nThe benefits were fantastic. Incredible work/life balance.",

"advice": "Remember that a company is only as strong as the people who support it and the customers who trust it. When the focus becomes too heavily centered on metrics, efficiency, and numbers, it can create an environment where both employees and customers feel the impact. Long-term success comes from investing in the people who represent the company every day and creating systems that support both employees and customers,",
"cons": "Now it's time for the cons...\n\nOnce I got on the floor and started taking live calls, I realized I was dealing with a completely different beast.\n\nPeople from the training group started dropping like flies. Within the first couple of days of being on the floor by ourselves, people started leaving. I remember that around four or five people had already left within the first week of being solo on the floor. It was a very rude awakening because the reality of the job was completely different from what training prepared us for.\n\nThe calls were back-to-back all day long, no matter the time, day, or holiday, the phone would constantly ring. As soon as one ended, another one came in. There was no time to breathe, reset, or mentally prepare for the next customer. Every once in a while, you would get a genuinely kind customer, but they were rare. The negative calls were so frequent that they often overshadowed the positive ones.\n\nYou deal with customers who are rude, entitled, lie about situations, threaten lawsuits, or become extremely upset over things that are literally out of your control. Some customers were understandably frustrated by real issues, but their frustration was often directed at us, who were simply following company policies/guidelines.\n\nOne of the biggest frustrations was trying to get help when you actually needed it. There were times when I would reach out for assistance, and the people who were supposed to help either did not know the policy themselves or seemed annoyed that I was asking questions. Instead of feeling supported, you sometimes feel like you are on your own, searching through hundreds of articles and resources, trying to find the information needed to help the customer. It often feels like searching for a needle in a haystack, trying to find an answer that is accurate, useful, and can actually resolve the customer's issue.\n\nTransfers were another major issue. A lot of times, you needed to warm transfer a customer to another department, but the process was not always smooth. You would have agents refuse to take the call, hang up, or simply give you an answer and disconnect instead of accepting the transfer like they were supposed to. This made an already stressful situation even harder for both myself and the customer.\n\nThere was also a lot of outsourcing, which, from my experience, affected the overall customer service process. With different teams and departments involved, communication could be inconsistent. Sometimes it felt like customers were being passed around instead of receiving a clear resolution. It created more frustration because you were trying to help someone while also navigating a system that did not feel organized.\n\nNext is QA! Another major frustration was QA and performance metrics.\n\nA large part of performance was based on customer surveys. The difficult part was that many survey results depended on things outside of your control. For example, if someone had money tied up in their account and had to wait several business days to access it due to security measures or company policy, they were already frustrated before the conversation even started. Even if you explained everything correctly, followed policy, and did everything you could to help, you were still the person delivering the answer they did not want, so naturally, you would get a negative survey, further bringing down your score, even though you have no control. \n\nThere was also little to no opportunity for growth. Some people who had been there for years would work extremely hard, consistently receive coaching, review calls, and work on improving their metrics, yet still remain in the same position. The coaching was consistent, but there was very little opportunity to actually move forward. \n\nFrom what I saw, many people stayed in the same role for years. Imagine doing back-to-back calls, handling difficult customers, working toward demanding metrics, and receiving constant coaching for years without any career progression.\n\nOverall, this was one of the most stressful and unrewarding jobs I have ever worked. If you are mentally prepared, can stay focused, and can handle constant pressure, you may succeed in this role. However, I would recommend exploring other options first if you have the opportunity. If this is your only option, I wish you the best of luck, but be prepared for the mental and emotional demands that come with this position. Protect your peace and your mental health.",

"pros": "I'll give credit when credit is due...\n\nStarting from the beginning...training! Training was honestly one of the better parts of the whole experience. The trainers were supportive and patient, making everyone feel comfortable while learning these detailed and complex policies. The training environment was welcoming and carefree, making me feel as though this was a great company to work for. Training consisted of daily classroom-based sessions, a 30-minute lunch, and two breaks. A lot of the time was spent listening to trainers explain policies, procedures, and different scenarios for hours at a time. Then we would have breaks to do role-play calls with our training group, work on Word document scenarios, complete activities, and go over different situations we might encounter once we got on the phones. Overall, it was a good training...\n\nThe benefits were another positive of working here. I paid less for my benefits than I had at previous jobs, and overall I thought the coverage was really good.\n\nI also really liked the flexibility with PTO. If you had PTO available and there was room in the schedule, you had the ability to request same-day PTO. For example, if you needed to pick up your kids, handle an appointment, or deal with something unexpected, you could request that time off if availability allowed. You could also flex time, so if you needed to come in late, you could and just work later to make up the time. Of course, it was not always guaranteed, but having that option was helpful. \n\nThe people were probably one of the biggest reasons I was able to make it through as long as I did. When you are going through a stressful environment, having coworkers who understand what you are dealing with makes a difference. Everyone was going through the same challenges, and there was a sense of community because we were all trying to get through it together.\n\nAs far as the coaches and managers, I have mixed feelings. Everyone had an assigned coach who would review calls, provide feedback, and work with you on improving. My experience was that the coaches and managers did try to help and support employees. It often felt like their hands were tied because they understood the problems, as they had been there before, but could only do so much.",
