Help Needed - How to Make Middle Mouse Button a Drag-Lock

I have a genuine 3 button mouse - no scroll wheel. I want to make the middle button a drag-lock. In other words, it would be a left mouse click that sustains when you release your finger from the mouse. You could then drag things around without having to hold the button down. And to end the drag, you click the middle button again to release it. I'm a total noob and haven't a clue how to do this. If anybody could offer a solution that actually works, that would be great. BTW, the reason I want to do this is to mitigate carpal tunnel problems. Thanks!

This worked for me.

Note: there is a slight delay, at least for me, after you press the middle button, before the drag lock is enabled.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I just don't understand how to use this program. This is as far as I could get.

I think I got the output right, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to set the input to the middle mouse button. Could you please tell me step by step what I have to do to get this thing to work. Understand, you're dealing with a total retard here.

Your interface is different from mine. I set the middle click in the devices tab. In there, you choose the device(mine in logitech trackball). Then, Change Key. This is where you click the middle button and enter the macro. Mine appears as Button SIDE. Then click Apply button and it'll start injecting. If you can't change settings it's probably already running so click Stop Injecting.

I guess my next question is, how can I get my interface to look like yours? Are there different versions of input remapper? I installed mine with this: sudo apt install input-remapper

I'm not sure you can as we are on different versions of linux. I'm guessing all the same pieces of the UI should be there, just arranged differently. I had to play around with it a bit to get everything working. You may want to look at the docs to understand how it's supposed to work and then use my screenshot to fill in the blanks.

SOLVED! For anyone interested, I succeeded in making the middle mouse button a drag-lock, not by using Input-Remapper, but by following this guide:

I had to use a slightly different syntax in the terminal by not using the two dashes before list-devices. I also had to install libinput. But the good news is it all WORKS!
