Would love to see where support was removed and see what's involved in adding it back in... this would be a huge game changer for me, would be happy to keep things working as well :)

The commit that removed support was this one. It doesn't apply cleanly anymore, as internals have changed a bit since then, but it's mostly just a matter of inputting the right coordinates on the screen (see e.g. here how to gather them) and threading the version to the function that simulates the tapping.
