I cancelled the workflow run while orioledb AMIs were still building/testing and then clicked "re run all jobs" this way github matrix aka eval runs a new. This way we'll make sure it doesn't do anything with the packages pushed for those build/tests that passed. Also the pg15/17 AMIs that did build/test should now skip while orioledb needs to start from scratch. |
The workflow already runs on every Nix CI run through the amis job, including Nix CI runs dispatched with nix run .#trigger-nix-build, so a separate manual trigger is redundant. Point the development workflow docs at the Nix CI run instead. Assisted-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
This is a lovely hack while we still build AMIs via packer and not purely in nix locally. Add ami-test-stamp-<major> packages whose out path changes whenever the AMI sources, the packages installed on the AMI, or the tests change. The stamp is pushed to the binary cache once testinfra passes, and AMIs whose stamp is already cached are skipped. Building a stamp requires the ID of the tested AMI (AMI_ID_FILE with --no-pure-eval), so it fails loudly if anything else tries to build it. Assisted-by: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

What kind of change does this PR introduce?
feature and hack
What is the current behavior?
We waste time rebuilding and testing AMIs for changes that don't actually affect them.
We don't gate PRs on the full CI workflow (Nix CI ✅).
What is the new behavior?
We skip building AMIs and testing them if this small text file package exists. This means we can gate on Nix CI ✅ for PRs since we exit 0 if there's nothing to build/test.
Additional context
This is a hack until I finish my packer-less image builds, in the meantime this is fine since only CI pushes to the cache.
Will unblock MPG-75.
