Allow for `xsd:anyURI` for all Darwin Core properties that end with `ID`

Darwin Core properties on classes such as Taxon are most likely datatype properties and not object properties. Therefore, it's sensible to allow for both xsd:string and xsd:anyURI values for properties ending with ID.

@nicholascar can you comment on whether IRIs should be allowed too? For example, should URIs be proper URIs or should they be referred to with xsd:anyURI?

xsd:anyURI is a datatype. It is not a sub-type of xsd:string so it is disjoint - see https://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema11-2/#built-in-datatypes . So there needs to be an 'or' operator in the SHACL.

But I guess what you are really asking is whether

my:example my:property "http://example.org/path/id"^^xsd:anyURI .

is the same as

my:example my:property <http://example.org/path/id> .

I don't know, but my feeling is 'no'.

Thanks @dr-shorthair, yeah I don't think they're the same. One is a literal with a datatype while the other is an IRI.

I guess what I'm asking is, when using the Darwin Core properties in an RDF context, when we refer to the IDs of things, should they be referred to via a literal or an IRI? I guess this depends on whether we see these Darwin Core properties as datatype or object properties.

What if it's just a general rdf:Property? Or it's both an object and a datatype property? When do we record the value as an RDF resource versus a literal with the datatype xsd:anyURI?

rdf:Property is not liked by OWL processors, precisely because Datatypes and Objects are disjoint.
But if you are doing SHACL, then you know much better than me what is possible.

As far as DWC is concerned, it is not an RDF standard. There are RDF interpretation/implementations, but I don't think they can be taken too formally. Where did you source what you are using from?

There are two 'versions' of the RDF implementation of DWC - see https://dwc.tdwg.org/rdf/
Two namespaces are used
http://rs.tdwg.org/dwc/terms/ with literal objects
http://rs.tdwg.org/dwc/iri/ with URI links

I think they only provide references to the IRIs of the classes and properties.

I usually look at this list https://dwc.tdwg.org/list.

E.g., dwc:acceptedNameUsageID - it only says that its type is a Property and nothing else.

If you you use CURL or PostMan you can get JSON-LD for both

But they don't appear to have any useful axoims.
