Lab 10 — Brush Engine and Mask Painting

Scenario

Create a textured vignette without damaging source pixels.

Objective

Tune brush behaviour for masking and expressive texture.

Supplied Photoshop/JPEG files

  • Brush-Mask-Starter.psd
  • Custom Brush.jpg
  • Flower.jpg

Detailed procedure

  1. Open the starter and save Lab10-Brush-Control.psd.
  2. On a test layer compare hard/soft tips, sizes and spacing.
  3. Compare Opacity and Flow with repeated strokes.
  4. Enable one Shape Dynamics or Transfer setting and record the effect.
  5. Create or load a texture brush from Custom Brush.jpg on a separate layer.
  6. Use a restrained brush on a flower layer mask; hide, restore, inspect and export.

Evidence to retain

Layered PSD, settings/decision record, before-after or variant proof, and verified delivery image.

Acceptance criteria

  • Supplied source remains recoverable
  • Required techniques are visible and editable
  • Result passes Fit and 100% inspection
  • Evidence and output specifications are complete
