Night shift report

WHY THIS MATTERS: Google Cloud is now a two-track platform. Platform docs introduce Claude Models on Google Cloud (Anthropic managed). This is the Claude API run by Anthropic, reached through a Google Cloud project, with its own claude.googleapis.com IAM service and roles. It joins the Claude API, Claude Platform on AWS and Foundry as an "Anthropic-operated platform" for deprecation dates. The old Vertex AI page now redirects to the renamed Claude Models on Google Cloud (Google managed). Anyone choosing between the two, or reading model-retirement dates for GCP, needs to know which one they're on. On the Claude Code side, v2.1.309 is mostly security hardening. Several fixes close gaps where sandboxed or permission-checked commands could get around their limits.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • New Google Cloud docs (3 new pages + IAM reference): build-with-claude/claude-models-on-google-cloud/{overview,anthropic-managed,google-managed}.md and api/claude-models-on-google-cloud-anthropic-managed-iam-permissions.md. Setup through Google Cloud Marketplace creates a separate Anthropic org, apart from any existing org, Enterprise included. Model-deprecations and pricing now use the new names. Opus 4 and 4.1 stay available only on the Google-managed track (and Bedrock for 4.1).
  • Tombstone (moved): build-with-claude/claude-on-vertex-ai now redirects to .../claude-models-on-google-cloud/google-managed. The local claude-on-vertex-ai.md was kept and is now stale; the redirect rule correctly stopped it being overwritten with the target's body. Day shift: consider removing it, since the new page supersedes it.
  • Tombstone (renamed): support article 17440474 "Migrate from standalone Claude Design to Claude" is now "Move from standalone Claude Design to Claude". It's a slug change only.
  • Claude Code 2.1.309 security fixes: shell startup files ran outside the sandbox before each sandboxed Bash command (macOS/Linux). Sandboxed commands could modify the --mcp-config file. denyWrite globs failed through symlinks. Edit(path) deny rules could be bypassed by Bash redirects inside subshells. Worktree isolation accepted some locale-prefixed and zsh arithmetic commands. PowerShell hooks exiting 2 didn't block, and on Windows they failed open without Git for Windows. Linux sandbox write-denies lifted when a background command outlived the session.
  • Behavior changes: sed -i now runs as a normal Bash command and is no longer a simulated edit preview, so /rewind no longer restores it. claude ultrareview now needs workspace trust: pass --trust-workspace or set CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_ULTRAREVIEW_TRUST_CHECK=1 in CI. In bypass mode, dangerous rm/rmdir commands in Desktop and VS Code are denied right away with a rewrite hint. The /claude-api skill now builds Managed Agents teams on multiagent_20261001.
  • Claude Code docs (44 pages): monitoring-usage.md gains OpenTelemetry Safety event telemetry (categories, calls without an event). errors.md adds new disk-full/ENOSPC messages, ultrareview trust errors, an organization-refused feedback error, and stale sandbox mask files. There are also updates to ultrareview.md, vs-code.md, desktop.md, memory.md (cap on oversized nested CLAUDE.md files) and the mods/plugins reference.
  • Claude Desktop on third-party (3P) platforms: new configuration-format.md page covering where config lives for on-device, Enterprise Admin Console and self-hosted installs. The configuration reference was heavily rewritten (~4.3k lines changed).
  • Support: the Cyber Verification Program now accepts applications for managed services (your own staff doing security work for customers). Customer-facing products, constrained or unconstrained, are not open yet.
  • Broad platform doc refresh: prompt caching, PDF support, batch processing, thinking/effort, Workload Identity Federation (WIF) providers, the Java/PHP/Go SDKs, and the 2026-10-21 migration guide.
  • discovery.json: date bump only, so no new sources.
