Night shift report
WHY THIS MATTERS: Claude Code now supports MCP tasks, in public beta from v2.1.304. An MCP server can answer a long
tools/callwith a task handle, and the job then runs on the server. Claude keeps working while it runs, a remote job keeps going after you exit, and resuming the session picks it up again. This changes how long-running MCP tools behave, and server authors get a precise wire contract to build against. Separately, the platform shipped a Claude Tag API (Enterprise beta, 14 endpoints) for managing Claude-in-Slack settings programmatically. Nearly all of the 886-file diff is upstream rewriting relative links to absolute URLs across code.claude.com, claude.com/docs, support and MCP. That part is noise, and only about 120 files carry real wording changes.HIGHLIGHTS:
mcp.md, about 160 new lines). Covers how a call becomes a task, the/tasksfooter count, stopping a task withx, and how elicitation dialogs work while a task runs. A table explains what/clear,/resume, exit,--fork-sessionand one-shotclaude -pdo to a running task. There is a full status-message troubleshooting table, plus "Make Claude wait" viaCLAUDE_CODE_MCP_AUTO_BACKGROUND_MS=0or the newCLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_MCP_TASK_BACKGROUND=1.resultType: "task"reply shape, required fields (taskId≤128 printable ASCII,status, createdAt,lastUpdatedAt,ttlMs), andpollIntervalMsclamped to 250–30000ms (default 2000).headless.mdadds a new "MCP work when a non-interactive run ends" section:claude -pdoesn't wait, and auto-backgrounded MCP calls lose their result.claude-directory.mdadds the newprojects/<project>/<session>/mcp-tasks/state dir.timeoutfield orMCP_TOOL_TIMEOUT.CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_BACKGROUND_TASKSre-scoped. It's no longer described as "all background task functionality". The env-vars, interactive-mode, tools-reference, sub-agents, skills and code-review-local docs now list exactly what it turns off: Bash/PowerShell/subagentrun_in_background, Ctrl+B and forked-skill background runs. They also say explicitly that it does not make Claude wait for MCP tasks.manage-claude/claude-tag-api.md, 2.5k lines). It runs under/v1/organizations/claude_tag/and covers Slack channels, Slack workspaces, Access bundles and bundle targets. It needs headeranthropic-beta: experimental-claude-tag-2026-10-21and new Admin key scopesread:claude_tag/write:claude_tag. It is Enterprise-only and not for Console orgs. Release notes date it October 20, 2026.sshHostCommands(desktop.md + settings-reference). This new setting lets a command-line tool create a dev box on demand: Desktop runs the command and connects to the host it prints. It needs Desktop v3.6556.0+ on macOS or Linux. Admins can distribute it via managed settings, andstrictPluginOnlyCustomization: ["hooks"]locks out user entries because Desktop treats them like hooks. There's a cost warning too: Desktop never deletes machines it replaced.headersHelperArgsfor the headers helper, a new note on blocking user mods, Windows exec-form hooks must point to a.exe, and refreshed government walkthrough videos (v2).tombstones.json/discovery.jsonare untouched.Created by night-shift claude-yolo
