Night shift report

WHY THIS MATTERS: v2.1.310 puts the Monitor tool and plugin monitors on Bedrock, Vertex and Foundry, and on setups with telemetry or nonessential traffic turned off. Before this, enterprise and air-gapped users didn't get background monitoring at all. The release also fixes a Windows security bug: when Git Bash was missing, PreToolUse and PermissionRequest hooks whose command was only quoted strings let tool calls through without checking them. Anyone who relies on hooks as a guardrail on Windows should upgrade. Both SDKs also shipped minor versions on the same day that add Claude Tag endpoints for Enterprise orgs.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Monitor tool now works on Bedrock, Vertex and Foundry, and when telemetry or nonessential traffic is disabled. Long foreground sleeps are now blocked there too.
  • Security fix (Windows): with Git Bash missing, hooks whose command was only quoted strings (such as a quoted path) failed open. Fixed.
  • Gateway compatibility: Claude Code now retries without the effort-2025-11-24 beta value or mid-conversation system messages when a gateway or compatible server rejects them.
  • OTel subagent attribution: new agent_id, parent_agent_id, and request_id attributes on events (v2.1.310+), so you can join a subagent's tool calls to its API requests. monitoring-usage.md documents the order in which attributes drop when OTEL_LOGRECORD_ATTRIBUTE_COUNT_LIMIT is set low.
  • New error documented: an MCP elicitation that nobody answers in a non-interactive session now tells Claude not to call the tool again. errors.md lists the fixes: an Elicitation hook, the SDK's onElicitation callback, or a longer per-server timeout.
  • Desktop auto mode tuning for admins: third-party/claude-desktop/code.md explains how to tune the Auto mode classifier through managed autoMode settings, and how to let vetted connector tools skip classifier review with permissions.allow. The docs warn that such a rule matches by name, so it also covers a same-named tool on a user's own MCP server.
  • Cloud sessions: Enterprise custom roles can now control access to Cloud sessions and Remote Control.
  • SDKs: Python 2.3.0 and TypeScript 1.3.0 add Claude Tag endpoints for Claude Enterprise. The PHP SDK docs gain OpenTelemetry tracing and middleware sections.
  • API reference: upload fields (file, files, archive) on Files, Skills and Plugins are now typed file instead of string in every language's reference. This fixes the docs; the API itself didn't change.
  • Cost guide rework (optimizing-for-cost-and-intelligence.md): new advice on fast mode (twice the price for up to 2.5x speed; batching doesn't work with it). It also covers when to set a Haiku 5.5 compaction trigger below 100K tokens to avoid the 5x long-context price, and says to pick the cache duration at the start of a conversation, because switching mid-conversation writes the whole cache again.
  • Analytics API: "Chat and Cowork unified" is no longer labeled beta. New sections cover Claude Code through Bedrock and how CMEK orgs get less detail in analytics.
  • No deletions, no new tombstones, and no discovery changes (only date bumps in discovery.json and tombstones.json). The rest is support/ and github/ mirror churn.
