Thunderbird 24 not working with Android 6 (nor Thunderbird 23) #11728

Where did you get the app from?
F-Droid
Android version

Samsung Galaxy S5
Steps to reproduce
- Download and install apk from F-droid
- Launch the app
- Thunderbird will crash
Notice that 22 version was functionning.
Hope you could fix that shortly.
Expected behavior
To use the application properly.
Actual behavior
Impossible to read the emails through thunderbird.

Hi @E-Gwen,
Thank you for reporting this, and we apologize for the trouble. We have already received similar reports regarding this issue. Google has begun phasing out support for Android 6 within the platform libraries we rely on, which is likely causing the problems you are experiencing. Because these changes are occurring within the external libraries provided by Google, there is no fix we can implement within the app to resolve them.
While we intended to maintain support for Android 6 through the end of the year, this is no longer possible. Thunderbird for Android 25 will be the final version compatible with Android 6. Starting with version 26, Android 7 or newer will be required. We understand this is disappointing and apologize for the impact this has on your device usage.
