What problem would this solve?

Currently when SMTP email notifications are enabled globally in system settings, every qualifying event (e.g. new comments under a memo or mentions) triggers an immediate email to the memo author.

If a public memo gains traction and receives multiple comments within a short timeframe, the author's inbox gets flooded with notification emails. Furthermore, users currently lack granular controls to customize their notification behavior or mute specific threads without completely removing their email address from their profile.

What would you like to happen?

  1. Allow users to opt in or out of email notifications independently of their profile email presence. Allow toggling specific notification channels/triggers (e.g., Direct mentions only, Comments on authored memos, System announcements)
  2. Provide a "Mute notifications" button on individual memo detail views so authors can stop receiving alerts on specific high-traffic public notes.
  3. Implement a configurable rate limit or debounce window (like maximum 1 email per user per some minutes for active threads) to prevent email bombardment during rapid comment exchanges.
