- Around line 65-71: Update the duplicate-registration branch that checks
`message` and currently returns so it waits for the winning registration to
complete, then applies the later `contentScript` payload and reloads its
matching tabs. Do not call `updateContentScripts()` while registration is still
in flight.

Two overlapping reloads of the same entrypoint could both register, and the loser dropped its payload, so a later change to matches or css went unapplied. Reloads of one script now run in order, so the later payload updates the registration. Adds a unit test with a fake scripting API that rejects a duplicate or early update the way Chrome does.

There's a lack of test for failure case, where running condition happened.

No, wait.
It seems like failure test.
But wait, what 2 different match urls?
I thought that was an issue with 1 reload runs after another for the same url.
...
But now i'm understand, that's a case where the same content script run for different tab(url).
But what happened when second script end it's reload?
First one will be cancelled but HMR will fire for this tab after all?
I mean, steps:
- First go
- Second go
- First ended
- First reloaded
- Second Cancelled(It will be reloaded with new content(From first) for this
urlalso, after all?)
Replaces #2610, which GitHub closed when I deleted my fork by accident. The first commit is that change, rebased onto current
main; the second replaces catching the error with running reloads in order.Overview
In MV3 dev,
reloadManifestContentScriptMv3registers a content script with a check-then-act sequence:getRegisteredContentScripts(), thenregisterContentScripts()if the id is absent. When twowxt:reload-content-scriptevents for the same entrypoint arrive close together, both read an empty registration and both register; the loser throwsDuplicate script ID 'wxt:content-scripts/<name>.js'.Nothing catches it.
reloadContentScriptcallsvoid reloadContentScriptMv3(payload), and the WebSocket listener does not await it, so the rejection lands as an unhandled promise rejection in the service worker. This PR runs reloads of the same content script one after another, keyed by script id, so the check-then-register sequence can no longer interleave. The second reload then sees the first one's registration and updates it, so the later payload is the one that ends up applied. The "Duplicate script ID" rejection can't occur, so nothing catches it.
Manual Testing
The race is timing-dependent, so it does not reproduce on demand. It shows up on an MV3 project in
wxt devwhere several content script entrypoints share source, so one save emits multiple reload events in quick succession.I have been running this change as a local patch against
wxt@0.21.4in a project whose Playwright suite records service-worker unhandled rejections and fails any test that sees one. Before the change,Duplicate script IDfired roughly twice per 23-spec run. After it, three consecutive runs recorded noDuplicate script ID, nonot fully registered, and no other rejection; all 23 specs passed each time. The measurements above were taken with the earlier approach, which caught the duplicate error. I have not re-run the Playwright suite against this version. A new unit test covers overlapping reloads with different
matches: it failed on the earlier approach and passes now.Related Issue
