Rebuild spatial indexes more sparsely

A big overhead for all algorithms using spatial indexes is the time it takes to fully rebuild the index. Bulk insertion outperforms replacing single nodes in all cases, but maybe we can find a way to prevent rebuilding the index on every iteration
