Stack Exchange uses selectItems(), but it always saves a snapshot of the page that's already loaded in the user's browser - the Select Items dialog just lets you select what metadata to save. It adds a { document: doc } snapshot attachment to each saved item. IMO the Connector should save those snapshots rather than ignoring them.
